Throughout their music, Red Sun nod to the past but live firmly in the present. The Oklahoma City quartet’s sound – a vibrant collision of fifth-wave emo, alt-rock, and pop – is rooted in the DIY spirit that raised them: cramped vans, house shows, and the joy of seeing peers rise through the emo-punk ranks. That shared sense of growth fuels every song on At Their Very Best, the band’s debut LP, that balances the angular guitars and raw emotion of Midwest emo against melodies that hit fast and clean.
Produced by Billy Mannino (Oso Oso, Macseal), At Their Very Best follows 2024’s best buds :) EP – hailed by Brooklyn Vegan as one of the year’s “most promising breakthroughs” – which earned the band national attention while reinforcing their Sooner State roots. Songs like “Let It Rip” and “Slayce” carry the crisp precision of blink-182 and Fall Out Boy, while the boisterous “Officer Jenny Redux,” bright horns of “Ruff Ryderz,” acoustic drive of “God Bless Luke Wittrock,” and reimagining of their very first song,“Dallas,” showcase the dynamic range they’ve honed on nationwide tours. That spirit of reflection and renewal runs throughout the album, turning small moments and personal growth into something universal. At Their Very Best captures the duality of being young and uncertain yet hopeful – when some days your best feels unstoppable, and others like you’re simply giving all you’ve got.
The album will be released on January 23rd with vinyl orders shipping that week. Also available on Bandcamp.
